The Lakes Hike - Ecolorado

Description

A three and a half day hike ending with a river rafting trip amid incomparable scenery dotted with lakes and karst formations.

Day 1: Leave at 1.30pm for the walk up to the Vogealle refuge (alt. 1,901 metres). Leave the rucksacks and climb to Lake Vogealle (alt. 2,001 metres), coming back down to the refuge in the evening for a fabulous meal prepared by the guardians. (positive altitude difference: 1,050 metres; negative difference: 100 metres). Day 2: Leave at 8.30am and head for La Vogealette by the Pas de l'Ours and the Col des Chambres (2,338 metres). This extraordinarily wild, rugged mountain pass never fails to impress, especially if there are chamois, rabbits or hares to see. A high-altitude valley with a floor that is almost always covered in snow takes us up to Lac des Chambres (the lake is frozen for all 12 months of the year). From there, we walk down to the Folly refuge (altitude 1,558 metres) (positive difference in altitude: 430 metres; negative difference: 780 metres). Day 3: Set off at 8.30am and head for the Combe aux Puaires in the heart of a rugged, fissured landscape. Watched closed by chamois, we climb 700 metres at a leisurely pace before the slope becomes steeper and reaches the Pas du Taureau (altitude approx. 2,500 metres). From there, we go down to the Col de Bostan (altitude 2,290 metres) and on down to the Bostan refuge (1,763 metres). Day 4: After a leisurely walk down to Les Allamands, a minibus will pick us up and take us on down to Samoëns. In the afternoon, a session of white water rafting will revive you after the fatigue of the hike!
